The Punic wars between Rome and Carthage started in 264 BC and ended 146 BC. By winning the Punic wars Rome had conquered Carthage and during the wars Rome had created a navy that would be able to rule the Mediterranean sea. the roman army was very strong conquering all of Italy except the Po valley by 390 BC.
